But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles (Isaiah 40: 31)
Majestically the eagle perches on the evergreen branch. Slowly, its eyes survey the landscape looking for food. As a bird of prey, an eagle is ready to hunt. Suddenly, the evergreen branch shakes. The eagle spreads its wings and launches into the air. Flapping and flapping its wings, the eagle flies towards the dark clouds. Under those clouds is an updraft needed for soaring. The equal pressure under its wings and the pressure above: caused by the downdraft produces the lift necessary for flight. God designs the eagle wings for soaring. With outstretched wings, the eagle floats on he updraft to higher and higher heights. This eagle is never exhausted or weak from soaring.
Unlike this eagle, the trials of my life exhausted my energy and desire to conquer. I needed to learn to soar like that eagle. In search of an answer to my spiritual exhaustion, I read this answer that God gave to Jeremiah: "Behold, one shall fly like an eagle, and spread this wings over Moab." (Jeremiah 48: 40) Just spread your spiritual wings and fly over your problem, could it be that simple? Perhaps!
Continuing on my search, I read the question that God asked Job regarding eagles. "Does the eagle mount up at your command, and make its nest on high?" (Job 39: 27) God controlled every animal, person and situation in my life (even the trials).
Still, no closer to my answer, I thought about this: "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength." What does it mean to "wait" on the Lord? The "wait" in this verse meant to wait on or upon (something or someone).
Before the eagle launched into flight, it waited on the branches. It also, waited for the arrival of the wind. Once the eagle had flown to the clouds, its wings stopped flapping. The bird of prey placed itself upon the wind current and rested. There is my answer to renewing my spiritual strength. The next time a trial enters your life become one of God’s little eagles and rest upon His strength. You can soar on the wind current higher and higher to new spiritual heights.
