Sophisticated Donkeys

"Then the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you…." Numbers 22: 30 NKJV

With all our animation and special effects a talking animal carrying on an intelligent conversation doesn’t shock us. Man induced artificial intelligence answers our phones. Reminds us about upcoming events. Even television commercials replace humanity with animated characters. Nothing shocks our senses. Except this: only the Lord God’s message to our hearts awakens our eternal decisions.

When the LORD speaks nature listens. This donkey sensed the angel on the road long before its master. The animal responded to the message – it stopped. We are often like Balaam – dull of hearing and spiritual dim witted. With a chuck full life of making money, teaching, cleaning, and serving the Lord, we miss the message from the Holy Spirit.

The LORD’s message to our friends, family, co-workers, and church members demands an immediate response – stop the disobedience. Are we listening? Mankind is Christ’s crowning achievement. Yet we often miss an opportunity to share the divine message of hope to a dying world. We often continue on this road of disobedience until Christ’s opens the mouths of a willing participant. It doesn’t matter to Christ whether it’s a donkey or a stone. Jesus speaks through an obedient servant with keen spiritual senses. So, which one are you this morning, a keen spiritual sensed sophisticated donkey or a spiritual dimwitted servant?
